I read a declaration that Jesus gave after he returned from his 40 day stay in the desert. Jesus stood in front of a crowd with the scroll spread out and basically said “I’m bringing healing, sight and freedom! Right now. I’m here.” People became angry. Most of the people there actually cornered him at the edge of a cliff and wanted to throw him off to kill him. Why did they become so angry? Many people become angry or defensive when embarrassed or faced with truth. Why be angry at the truth? The truth can go against the things we believe to already be true. The people Jesus was reaching were needing healing, were hurt deeply, blind or enslaved. They might’ve been forgotten about or were considered society’s second-class.
Who are the people or communities that have been forgotten about or considered second-class? Is there anyone for them? I think about Martin Luther King, Jr. He led a group of people to claim rights that were due to them as an American citizen. What about Mother Teresa? She was a loving and healing hope to a desperate country. I don’t think that these leaders or leaders like them decided their path to make a statement. It happened. They were chosen. I believe it took years of pain, love and courage to drive them to a point of no return. A step taken was a step on a path to sacrifice who they wanted to be and to become what was needed. Hope and strength was needed. Did these leaders or leaders like them have fear? Did they ever think of quitting or have their own dark moments? We couldn’t possibly imagine them as weak. Why, because we chose them to lead.
This makes me think of New Faith. I’m in unique situation as a servant humbled by God. I was encouraged to start a community. One day, about a year and a half ago, the community behavior took a change. It was drastic for some but subtle for others. Today looking back, it was something that went into what was disorganized religion. Now the disorganized religion is turning the place into almost no religion. Now I find myself in an expedition for a people group that people have forgotten, misunderstand or wish they were tame while being courteous. I want them the way God sees them. Maybe I’m beginning to feel what it’s like to take steps in a corridor that leads into something much superior than me, my family or friends. I’m sure I’m not the only one. People choose the representation of God in the New Faith community to escort them to Jesus.

We didn’t select them! Is it the church building? No.
Is it religion? I don’t think so.
Is it life? It could be.
I think its love.
Love covers a multitude of ___ !
