So this weekend (August 5th and 6th) is marking the day we have waited on for 3 years. The celebration begins Saturday Aug 5th @ 4:00PM.
Together we have accomplished many things.
- JaNonda and I started the heavy debate 4 years ago today. She called me crazy and of course you know my reply was “but Honey?” with a smile.
- The planning started with 6 adults and $300.00
- June 2, 2003 six families left an established church to follow their dream. That dream began on June 5th and the first four months in a house.
- October 2003 about 40 people left a home to move into a public recreation center.
- At the recreation center few people came and left. We can all understand because we were trying to survive and establish our identity.
- Long Sundays was the agenda during the 22 month recreation center dwelling. The constant loading and unloading of equipment boxes from everyone seemed to be the focus.
- July 2005, our last month in the recreation center, was our best month there. I must say we were not sad to leave.
- August 2005 the changes came. We changed the name and location. The days of Grace were gone and the days of Faith arrived!
- Teamwork has been the agenda over the past year. We have been changing the inside of NEW FAITH for almost a year. Not just the building but as a people too! How many of you remember that wild message on that cool October Sunday? The Sunday when Religion and Tradition was tossed and engaging the Culture came in? From that point we saw a new Jesus!
This journey has caused running, skipping and crawling. There were times of laughter and mourning. Over the last 3 years people were trying to become leaders and some were learning to be Pastors. All of us were trying our best to hear Jesus. We all have slipped at one point or another but we got back up and continued on a path of the unknown. The only thing we truly knew was that God was somehow with us.
Four years ago today I knew I wanted to do something different than everyone else I knew was doing. I was almost swayed to doing it like the churches I knew because of discouragement and adversity. I didn’t because of all the crazy and forgiving people God added to this journey that is called the holy wild! If God would have told me that a group of people would come together in Virginia Beach to establish a church called NEW FAITH with an attached café called The Perfect Blend I would have… well I think you get the picture. It’s wild but we captured a moment and we’ve been holding on for a wonderful ride.
So much is happening around us. So much is going through our mind. If we stop we may miss another moment. What moment? The one moment that never stops. We can seize it, NEW FAITH!
This weekend let us celebrate. I mean celebrate hard! We deserve to celebrate! The best celebrations are when we share them with others. Invite everyone you know and as many people as you can. Let this weekend be a celebration of great proportions. Thanks for sailing with JaNonda, the boys and I.
