Day -25 My Dad (Being Together)

Growing up I would go fishing with my dad often. Sometimes it would be for an hour or even as long as a couple of days or nights. My dad taught me something during these times. This was not only fishing time. He explained he would sit, think, and wonder about God.

Later when as a teenager I was involved in school activities, dating, working, church functions and sports. I remember my dad asking if I wanted to go fishing. It hit me that it was time we spent together. I still see the expression on his face. Yes, I missed fishing but in that moment, I realized he missed the time with me. He wanted to spend time with me.
This morning I realized, we sense the need to carve out time with God so we can tell him everything that's going on. I mean, if he’s our father, we should want that time with him, right. Let me shift your thought. He already knows what's going on. Ready, He wants to spend time with us. He wants us to settle down so He can show us He cares. I know dad showed me something very valuable then and today I get it. I’m not sure if he knew how or what he was showing me. Dad knew he wanted time with me alone. Dad displayed the importance of allowing God to spend time with him. In return, dad told me “I want to spend time with you.” This morning I realize my God wants to spend time with me as he did with my dad. What kind of dad wants to spend time with his teenage son? Him and mine. My dad passed in July 2004 and I wish I could get these times today. Thanks dad for this valuable example!

"Be with me. I'll make a new kind of fisherman out of you." – Jesus
