We are here again

I will be the first to say that I’ve heard enough of the Ted Haggard event. I’m saddened about it all. I’m sure almost everyone will agree that we all fall short on many things in life. There is none that is exempt. I’ve been pondering a thing or two in my head over the past day or so.

I’m unaware of the evidence that the New Life Church has gathered and used to dismiss Rev. Haggard as their pastor. I’m like most and can only go by what I’ve read or heard. Let’s say what I’ve heard is true. Ted Haggard was sexually involved with a man and purchased methamphetamines. This has painfully surfaced for the entire planet to know. He has posted an apology to everyone that this has directly or indirectly affected. I accept the apology. Doesn't it seem that apologies in America are not easily accepted.

So let me cut right to it. I read and hear “Christians” saying “We all must forgive Mr. Haggard and move on.” I agree completely. Grace is evident. Yes, Mr. Haggard is forgiven. Yes, he can move on. This doesn’t remove something that runs very wild in many churches. That something is the attitude toward homosexuals. It may not be fair but I’m going to use Mr. Haggard’s story as an example of what I feel is happening right now in the church.

Help me think this out...
-Is he homosexual, bi-sexual or heterosexual?
-If he is homosexual then is he allowed to attend any church service held across this country?
-What makes him different from another human that says he or she is homosexual or bi-sexual?
-Is he accepted because of his celebrity status? America is star-struck.
-Is he accepted because he was a teacher of the Word?

I’m not writing this to prolong Mr. Haggard’s pain. I’m sure that he or anyone close to him will never read this entry. I’m suggesting that the very same “Christians” that raised their hand with a mighty amen, as the call against homosexuals, could be the same ones that are calling for the nation to forgive him? Forgive a homosexual? So let’s hit the root of the issue. It is homosexuality. The church has a problem with it. We should wake up and while doing so get the plank out of our eye! Be careful what we preach because eventually things have a way of becoming exposed. The church should be ready to exercise the forgiveness of everyone. I mean forgive me of my sin as I forgive others. How about don’t judge and you won’t be judged? I mean didn’t Jesus forgive before he exhaled his last breath. How about this for a change: Instead of treating a homosexual like a disease treat them like a spirit and let them experience the love of God for them! What is going through the mind of today’s mainstream church? My heart thinks that we shouldn’t be so naive and self-confident. We're not exempt. We could fall flat on our face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it's useless. We should cultivate a God-confidence. What are we cultivating? -chuck

Very good! I'm serious... I have to stop myself for my thinking or what I might say because I don't want to lay any judgement on anyone! Jesus was and still is the best and only example for me... for us all! I'm glad I can pray!!!
