Harvest Time

First I’d like to thank Pastor Chuck for inviting me to contribute to the New Faith Blog.  It means a lot to me that he’d allow me this privilege.  Also, I want to let all of you at New Faith know that Amy and I pray for you and are incredibly excited to know that God is doing amazing things in you and through you.  Keep us in your prayers as we labor together for the Kingdom of God.

There was a time when most Americans made their livelihood by agricultural means.  Even though that time has long since passed, we see reminders of this heritage around this time of year. We’ll all attend fall festivals and have Thanksgiving dinner with our friends and families...these events were originally held to celebrate the harvest and thank God for it.

As important as the crops were to our forefathers, Jesus spoke of an even more important harvest.  “What a huge harvest!” he said to his disciples. “How few workers!” (Matthew 9:37 MSG)

Everyday you and I are in the fields that are ripe and ready for harvesting.  The question is...are we “working the fields”?  There is a big difference in being in the field and actually laboring to bring in the harvest (my father quite frequently reminded me of this in our garden behind our house).  As many of us as there are who claim the name of Christ, I can’t help but wonder if Jesus is still saying “How few workers!”  Join me in making a decision today that you’re not content to just be in the field, but that from now on God will find you faithful to bring in the harvest.

Hey KC.
Thanks for the words and prayers. I want God's best for you and Amy. I hope you continue to gain the greatest workers to bring in the harvest. May we all be found faithful. Blessings.
